A Year of Inspiring Women

Thinking/ reflecting back on this past year as International Women’s Day and Spring approaches. It’s been a remarkable year for me. A community who have lifted me up, swept me along. You truly are influenced by those you spend time with.

One of the parts of this was Tribe Women- a pilot enterprise school/community.

Tribe Women was so much greater than the sum of it’s parts, therefore it’s impact is hard to quantify.

The parts: Many workshops and monthly coaching circles. Technically I should now be proficient in those areas… or improved at the very least, and I suppose I am (though there is ALWAYS work to be done). But what I didn’t expect was the importance of being carried along in your own wave of other inspiring women. The importance of a community along with the challenge (out of comfort zone, long hard looks at self, and the compassion to change it) and the discipline (regular meetings and accountability).

As applications begin for the second year of Tribe Women I thought it would be pertinent to celebrate with three photos, the women, who formed my experience of the year.

Nicola Sturgeon. First Minister of Scotland. Regardless of what side of the political fence you sit on, I feel that she is phenomenal- creating and carving her path in a masculine world. She launched Tribe Women on International Women’s Day 2018 and I love this photo of her… a moment of unguarded laughter. She is an astute politician…. but she is also very human.

Dawn Breslin. Runs Harmonising, emotional well-being coach. She gave the opening workshops at Tribe Women, and introduced me to the concept of seasons of growth and consolidation in life and work. She was also the client last year with the most demanding brief and shot list… Together we worked on thorough preparation to nail this ambitious branding shoot. I love a challenge! Dawn is a total professional and lovely to boot, I can’t wait to work with her again this year.

Jenny Pope. Artist and Coach and fellow Tribe Woman. Last year I had a hip replacement (rather young I know- but super happy to be bionic now. A bionic photo ninja!) and this shoot was a couple of weeks later… testing the concept of shooting on crutches! I’ve loved getting to know Jenny, her thoughtfulness, direct yet wry. This photo was her chatting in her studio about the exhibition she was preparing for at the National Gallery- it was on ‘creativity unblockers’ (I love art which makes you smile)… I love it as a portrait. Unposed and herself.

If you have a commission you’d like to talk to me about, please drop me an email and lets begin to chat. I need to find my most ambitious client of 2019 still! jo@jotennant.com
